Analysis of (Anti-)Oestrogenic and (Anti-)Androgenic Activities in Wastewater from the Lodz Sewer System

This article presents the results of a study on oestrogenicity and androgenicity urban wastewater in Lodz, possibility their removal by Group Wastewater Treatment Plant (GWWTP). samples were taken at five points sewer system city inlet outlet GWWTP. The was conducted using Yeast Oestrogen Screen (YES)/Yeast Androgen (YAS) tests, which allow general assessment content compounds with (anti-)oestrogenic (anti-)androgenic effects wastewater, without identifying specific substances. from sewage network did not show activity, while oestrogenic antagonistic properties to androgens detected most them. In influent treatment plant, oestrogen agonistic activity only one sample (oestrogen equivalent—EEQ equal 1.31 × 105 ng 17 β–oestradiol/L) 100% removed. purification efficiencies GWWTP for androgen 51.5–99.2% 39.4–47.1%, respectively. Although no observed high-antagonistic–androgenic activities may adversely affect water body cause, among others, feminization fish, especially case discharge untreated combined overflows.
